Her spontaneous, natural vocal reactions and questions were then edited into the story to create her character. The first episode was released in 2015 and received an Oscar nomination, the second episode was released in 2017.

A sequel to the film, The Evening Star (1996), in which MacLaine and Nicholson reprised their roles, was a critical and commercial failure.
