Infamous history if there is one; mature work by Žalakevičius adapting the lyrics of Zamyatin, a cursed and often exiled writer. I would be lying if I didn't say how my imagination feeds on living - as a subtext of the guiding plot - the eloquent misery of communism in the gray and poorly lit apartment of Sofia and Trofim who, to add one more vector to the equation of their precarious daily life, have invited Ganka aka Agafija Beznodraya lives with them, according to "Potvynis", the original story, the 13-year-old girl who accepted yes and only if they don't beat her for misbehaving, as she jokingly pointed out to her new parents. An eschatological catastrophic atmosphere looms that begins with Sofia's situation, increasingly psychologically affected by not being able to get pregnant; Then, as the years go by, Trofim's infidelity occurs, who is caught fornicating in the house with Ganka and later, what would be equivalent to the Flood of the Scriptures, a strong downpour that causes flooding and the couple and jerky must crouch in the upper floor of the building to protect yourself from the current, as well as some of your things. If I could think of a dozen macabre scenarios, I'm sure none would top seeing Sofia turning on the gas and, anyway, breaking Ganka's head with the back of an ax while the young girl sang "I'm sitting on a quarrelsome little girl...", and then, after wrapping her in a huge sheet, dragging her in a forklift of materials and debris, between puddles from the last deluge and sobs from the possible role of mother that she never got to fulfill with the deceased. THE atmosphere is unbreathable between the darkness of the house and the gloomy silence of the recent crime in the viewer's mind. Little by little, Sofia and Trofim's relationship does not return to normal, but at least the dalliance begins again until SOfia becomes pregnant. Trofim had already gone to declare Ganka missing but Sofia bought a new ax to mislead him. In the middle of the operating room, at the birth of her daughter, Sofia confesses that she killed her because Ganka longed to have the daughter who is hers and no one else's. Upon hearing this, Trofim accuses himself of the murder. Is it out of love for his recently arrived daughter, out of guilt for the mess that Sofia made due to her disloyalty?
